As a community-supported public awareness campaign, UnRestrict Minnesota is driven by the solidarity and leadership of its community partners. Together, these advocates, health care providers, lawyers, union members, artists, and concerned citizens are advancing every Minnesotan’s right to access abortion care in our state.
TakeAction Minnesota is a multiracial, multi-generational, grassroots membership organization, building a people-powered movement across our state for a government and economy that works for all of us.

In the interview below, they share a little about their work to build a people-centered democracy in Minnesota and the importance of expanding access to reproductive healthcare in Minnesota and beyond.
Could you tell us a little bit about your work?
TakeAction Minnesota is an alliance of organizations and individuals committed to social, racial, and economic justice. Our mission is to bring about a state that recognizes the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and whose government and economy operate by us and for us. Our organization is part of a movement changing who makes decisions and who benefits from those decisions. Because racial inequality, gender hierarchy, and corporate power prevent many people from leading joyful lives, the organization aims to dismantle those structures and promote racial, gender, and economic equity.
Why is this work important to take on in Minnesota?
Access to reproductive health care is being restricted, banned, and stigmatized across the nation and specifically in the Midwest. Minnesota has become a reproductive health care island, surrounded by states that want to reduce and/or restrict access to important, lifesaving, and gender-affirming care. Protecting, expanding, and destigmatizing access to abortion care—and all reproductive health care–is critical to advancing gender equity.
Why did you join the UnRestrict Minnesota coalition?
TakeAction Minnesota supports campaigns both to build systems that advance justice and to eliminate structures that perpetuate inequality.
What does achieving full reproductive justice in Minnesota mean to you?
We envision a Minnesota where access to reproductive health care and gender-affirming care is easy and without barriers, no matter your income, what you look like, where you live, where you came from, or who you love. We believe in a Minnesota where everyone can explore and express the fullness of themselves at any age and are able to take control of their reproductive health free from judgment or punishment.
