Special Edition: ICYMI news!
March 11, 2023
With so much going on during Minnesota’s legislative session, we wanted to make sure you didn’t miss these highlights!
As we saw in the results of the 2022 elections, Minnesotans overwhelmingly support reproductive freedom and abortion access. Our majority celebrated the passage of the PRO Act in January enshrining the right to abortion in Minnesota statute.
And now, our legislators need to keep going and get the job done to pass the Reproductive Freedom Codification Act repealing restrictions and the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act protecting patients and providers.
Polling Results
As you talk to family, friends, and legislators here’s what you need to know! In December 2022, we worked with a national polling firm to get the best up-to-date information on what Minnesotans want.
The poll found:
- 89% of Minnesotans want to know what their legislators are doing on the topic of abortion and want them to take action.
- 68% support repealing laws that restrict access to abortion.
- 75% support protecting providers from lawsuits from other states, while 74% support protecting people traveling to Minnesota for abortion care.

Showing Love for Our Champions at the Capitol
Last month, hundreds of you sent notes of appreciation to our reproductive freedom champions at the legislature. On Valentine’s Day, UnRestrict Minnesota coalition members delivered valentines to our reproductive freedom champions in the legislature and the governor’s office.
Senator Lindsey Port, Representative Athena Hollins, and other members of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus at the legislature were thrilled to hear from everyone!
ICYMI: HHS Secretary Visit with UnRestrict Minnesota
Last month, Xavier Becerra, the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, visited Minnesota and asked Gender Justice to host a roundtable discussion on reproductive health care.
Secretary Becerra congratulated us on Minnesota becoming a national leader for reproductive freedom, and we discussed the work ahead, including expanding access to medication abortion, combating anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers, and repealing the Hyde Amendment.
Thank you for being part of UnRestrict Minnesota!
