In the homestretch

May 12, 2023

When Roe v Wade fell, we cried together. We raised our voices in outrage together. We vowed we would fight back together.

And then we came together and showed everyone what we can do when we work together to make a better, brighter, more equitable future for all.

The results speak for themselves: We’ve written the right to reproductive freedom into Minnesota law. We’ve made our state a safe haven for everyone who needs or provides abortion care — or helps someone else get it. And we’re in the process of eliminating, once and for all, the vast majority of Minnesota’s unjust and unconstitutional restrictions on abortion rights and access.

Such huge achievements deserve an equally huge celebration — and we hope you will join us on June 8 for exactly that:

FDA Panel Endorses Making Birth Control Pill Available Over the Counter

On Wednesday, in a landmark step for reproductive health, a joint FDA advisory committee voted unanimously to allow a birth control pill to be offered over the counter (OTC). The advisory committee vote reflects the decades of science showing that birth control pills are safe and effective for over-the-counter use for people of all ages.

The vote came at the end of a two-day advisory committee meeting to review an application to switch Opill, a progestin-only, daily birth control pill, from prescription to over-the-counter status.

During the meeting, the FDA heard from reproductive health and justice advocates, health care providers, and young people about the broad benefits of bringing a birth control pill over the counter, particularly for those who currently face the most barriers to access.

This is a huge win for contraceptive access!
