Megan Peterson on Democracy Now, A win for abortion access at the MN Court of Appeals, and more news

March 15, 2024

Check out what’s new with UnRestrict Minnesota!

Megan Peterson on Democracy Now

This morning, Gender Justice Action Executive Director, Megan Peterson, spoke with Democracy Now about Kamala Harris’s visit to Minnesota’s St. Paul Planned Parenthood. In addition to highlighting some of the remarkable wins we have achieved in Minnesota from the Doe v. Minnesota lawsuit to the work of the UnRestrict Minnesota coalition, she also emphasized the dire need for the Biden administration and campaign to change course on Gaza. Peterson stressed that reproductive freedom and human rights must be defended not only domestically, but also in the administration’s foreign policy:

“Minnesota voters are very educated and sophisticated and able to make the connections between the importance of bodily autonomy and reproductive justice here at home, as well as recognize the reproductive injustices happening in Gaza with the death of over 12,000 children, with pregnant women and people facing a shortage of healthcare, experiencing stillbirths and having cesarean sections and deliveries without anesthesia. These are grave injustices and incompatible with the values of reproductive justice.

A Win For Abortion Access at the MN Court of Appeals

In a recent win for abortion access, the Minnesota Court of Appeals denied an anti-abortion activist group’s request to intervene in the lawsuit known as Doe v. Minnesota. As a result of this lawsuit, the court struck down many of Minnesota’s restrictions in July 2022, and this decision protected the work that was done to accomplish that victory.

The event is on March 30 at 2:00pm. Sign up, and find the details here!
  • Capitol Building Rally: Save the date for a rally at the capitol on March 27 from 12:00-2:00pm! More info coming soon.

Support the Reproductive Health Equity Fund

Tell Minnesota legislators you want them to invest in the state’s abortion care system by allocating funding to the Reproductive Health Equity Fund. This funding will ensure that we will have a more sustainable abortion care ecosystem and allow pregnant people to more freely make the decisions about their reproductive health care. The Reproductive Health Equity Fund (RHEF) will allocate $30 million in funding directly to Minnesota abortion providers to support a sustainable abortion provider state ecosystem.

Show your support by signing the petition here!

That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading!
