The Supreme Court has sent a clear message that Roe v. Wade is no longer the law of the land. Before long, states surrounding Minnesota will outlaw abortion, and we could soon be the only state in the upper Midwest where people can access abortion care.
But in Minnesota, there are a number of antiquated laws enacted by anti-abortion politicians that mandate doctors to read a script with medically irrelevant information, mandate minors seeking abortion care to notify both parents and require tissue resulting from an abortion or miscarriage to be disposed of by cremation or burial, to name a few. These barriers disproportionately harm Minnesota’s Black, indigenous, immigrant, low-income, and rural populations.
We must act now to remove these restrictions and expand access to abortion care in Minnesota.
